Emily Sousa
Postpartum & Infant Care Doula
Years of babysitting, nannying, substitute teaching, and working as a parapro in a high school couldn’t prepare Emily for the experience of a traumatic pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Emily’s only child was born three weeks before the COVID shutdowns, and she dealt with severe postpartum depression and anxiety with very little support; because of her experience, she is passionate about supporting new parents through this vulnerable time.
Emily has informally been at many friends’ and neighbors’ sides after the birth of a baby, and strongly believes that good, nourishing food and a listening ear are what every new parent needs. She is adamant that dads should be heard too. Her own experience of being a neurodivergent mother has given her a passion for supporting and advocating for other neurodivergent parents. Building a village can be difficult, but Emily is there with a non-judgmental presence.
Emily is a certified ProDoula Postpartum and Infant Care doula. She lives on the west side (the best side!) of Grand Rapids with her husband and five year old son. She is part of the small but mighty Grand Rapids Jewish community, and can be found at her synagogue, cooking, reading, or foraging in her free time
